A Year of Our Life …

Today, we had a long leisurely lunch at Chick-fil-A.  I took these pictures in the middle of lunch so pardon the crumbs and ketchup!  We ate and then the boys hit the play area while I worked on my ‘to do’ list and schedule for the week.  After ice cream, we sat and doodled the alphabet for a while.  Both boys, Joey especially, are so interested in the letters and what words start with what letters.  Joey kept asking me to draw a down D over and over I had absolutely no idea what a down D was … come to find out he wanted me to draw a lower-case D … LOL … no idea where he got ‘down D.’

Anyhoo, we caught the afternoon sun at our table and I couldn’t help but sit in awe of my boys’ eyes.  They both have big beautiful eyes with long eyelashes.  Definitely a trait from their daddy because my eyes and lashes are anything but …  And then I remembered a song that  was sort of my ‘theme song’ while I was pregnant with Gavin, Blessed by Elton John.  I especially wondered about my baby boy’s eyes and what color they would be given his gene pool …. wondered if there was a chance they’d be green or blue (the bluest that I’ve ever seen ….).  I can’t begin to count how many tears I shed listening to it as a hormonal pregnant woman!  Here’s the song ~

Hey you, you’re a child in my head
You haven’t walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you’ll be blessed

I know you’re still just a dream
your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I’ve ever seen
Anyway you’ll be blessed
And you, you’ll be blessed
You’ll have the best
I promise you that
I’ll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that, promise you that, promise you that
You’ll be blessed
I need you before I’m too old
To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
And know that you’re blessed
And you, you’ll be blessed
You’ll have the best
I promise you that
I’ll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that, promise you that, promise you that
You’ll be blessed

Boys, now that you are both here and I’ve got a brown-eyed boy and a sometimes blue, sometimes green-eyed boy I can focus on other things like making sure you have the best.  Not necessarily the best of ‘things’ but the best we can give you of ourselves as your daddy and mommy.  I can surely promise you that.

Tonight, we had a long overdue date night.  Here’s my handsome hubby driving us around town!  We started off at the Spurs / Rockets game (technically the Rockets / Spurs game since we are in Houston) and even though the Spurs lost, the game was a lot of fun.  We had awesome seats … we were close to the floor at mid-court so it was impossible to not be ‘in’ the game.  My hubby likes to call me a ‘seat snob.’  I won’t begin to deny it’s true yet it’s entirely his fault.  I think it was our second date … he took me to a Spurs game, in a limo, with great seats, capped off with dinner at Morton’s so he set the bar fairly high early on.  I can’t help but wonder where my limo was tonight.  = D   George and I had a great time no matter what we were doing … if I’m not mistaken, our third date was a lunch date that turned into a double-header … lunch at PF Chang’s, duck feeding at Woodlawn Lake, pizza buffet at Mr. Gatti’s (my fav), and then a Spurs game on TV.   I think I planned that date … didn’t want to spoil him early on!

We had a fantastic courtship … a little short but fantastic nonetheless.

As usual, I digress … so we finished our night with a yummy dinner at Nit Noi and it was all I could do to stay awake at that point.  Bless my hubby’s heart … he is such a nightowl and I am the polar opposite of a night owl.  Guess that’s one of the reasons he’s the yin to my yang.  Or maybe I’m the yang to his yin.  Hmmmmm, am I the pea or the carrot?

The boys’  life is one big race … getting dressed, getting to the car, eating supper, getting from point a to point b …. everything.  If I had a nickel for every time I say ‘it’s not a race’ each day …

And the boy who loses the race is not happy.  It’s a sad, sad fact.  And since Gavin has eleven months of  life on Joey, nine out of ten times, Gavin wins.  Today at the park, however, Joey held his own and then some.  He didn’t win every race or even half the races, but he did win one.

Lookout Gavin, while Joey will always be your little brother, he won’t be little for long!

I was unloading the dishwasher today and as I put a glass tumbler away, I thought it looked a little dirty (as in water spots).  So I dug to the back of the cabinet to find a glass that’s been unused for a while.  As I compared the two, I wondered how in the world our glasses where so spotty and I never noticed before.  I can’t remember the last time I put Jet Dry in or when I changed detergents but YUCK …the glasses are embarrassing regardless of the reason(s).

I’m not sure why I was compelled to photograph this contrast but as I snapped away, I started to think about the other things in my life that have changed and I haven’t noticed (or pretended not to notice … is that a nice way of saying ignored?).  My house is out of control.  We are so overwhelmed with stuff it’s ridiculous.  We have this room … the guest / computer / overflow storage room …. basically, it’s a room full of crap.  Along with my spotty glasses, it’s an embarrassment.  I’ve been saying forever that I need to get it organized and yet I haven’t.

And there’s more but I’ll just say that my focus is going to be getting our home in order …. inside and out … over the coming weeks.  I’m hoping some Jet Dry will cure my spots …. too bad there isn’t a quick fix for everything else!

Holy moly, it snowed today!  It didn’t stick and it didn’t snow for long but this makes the SECOND snowfall this winter.  It goes years and years between snow occurences and here it is snowing twice in the same year.  Crazy times!  This is the snow falling as viewed from our porch …. our neighbor’s house showcased the snow well!

Over the weekend, we did a little crafting so when I got  home, I needed to finish up a few things.  Tonight, I got my craft on and as soon as I got it on, I was ready to get it off!  Inspired by gifted and talented friends { } and { } who make these blocks professionally, I decided it was something I could do.  And while I did finish them, I quickly realized either (1) I am not as efficient as they are and / or (2) they are not charging nearly enough.

It was so nice to get away and recharge my battery over the weekend.  It’s such a blessing to have family that can help out with the boys.  Thank you Mom, Teta and Gido for watching the boys while George had to work.

And while I had a wonderful weekend away, it sure was nice to be home with my guys again!
